Nominate Sparks for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame : An Influence of Generations of Genres
The Issue
Sparks, Ron Mael and Russell Mael, are heard everyday through myriad artists. They have influenced not only generations of artists and musicians, but also various genres, including rock, pop, disco, new wave, electronic, and much more. Through their 50+ years of creative endeavors, they have conquered many forms regarding music and film, without being repetitive, predictable, or inadequate within their aspirations.
While the fans around the world would love to see the Mael brothers become laureates of this induction, there is a plethora of musicians and other creatives who would also agree. Sparks are an acknowledged and documented source of admiration, prime inspiration, and catalyst by current and future Hall of Fame inductees. Many of these names and inductees have been recorded and cataloged in the documentary, 'The Sparks Brothers,' by Edgar Wright, such as Duran Duran, Todd Rundgren, Flea, Steve Jones, Jane Wiedlin, to name only a few. If such a vast list of already inducted names are considered to meet the criteria of "influence and significance," which aid, "to the development and perpetuation," of music, then certainly Sparks have left their mark on the world enough to receive a nomination for induction.
In the last few years, Sparks have become part of a mainstream crowd. A significant following in recent years has allowed the newer audience to join a sort of cult following that was previously established. Sparks have managed to capture and cultivate the attention of audiences again through their world-renowned documentary, 'The Sparks Brothers,' as well as the Cannes Film Festival 2021 opening film, 'Annette.' New albums and two world tours came soon after, already dating the documentary with a recent touch of nostalgia. They are incessant on their work, which never fails to receive well-deserved praise and recognition. The last two world tours took them to many esteemed and historic venues, The Royal Albert Hall, The Ryman, Walt Disney Concert Hall, Hollywood Bowl, and the Sydney Opera House.
With these accolades and acclamation, the RnRHoF has the perfect opportunity and timing to receive Sparks. Their albums, 'Kimono My House,' and, 'Propaganda,' meet their Golden year in 2024, allowing Sparks the chance to embrace their Emerald year with the gift of becoming an inductee in 2025. Ron and Russell Mael, the world knows the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is big enough for the both of them; this is why I and the rest of the signers implore you for a nomination and 2025 induction for Sparks.
