Joseph joined the SUNO (Southern University of New Orleans) Black Knights track team in 1973 after graduating from East Jefferson High School where he was the 100 yards Champion in 1972 as well as the being the Louisiana All-American champion in the 100, 220 and 440 yard relay in 1971, 1972 AND 1973. He was also the NORD Meet of Champion 100 yard Champion in 1972 & 1973. He was an All American in the Junior Olympics of ’73.

Joseph graduated in 1977 from SUNO with a Bachelor’s degree in Business. Administration with a minor in Economics. His legacy of achievements at the college include:
·        National Black Sport Foundation: 1974 College Athlete of the Year
·        NCAA Div III Champion: 100 and 200 meters, 1975, 76
·        NCAA Div III Champion: 400 meter Relay: 1975-77
·        All American in the 100, 200 and 400 meter relay: 1974-77
·        Undefeated in the 200 meters; 1975 and 76
·        NAIA Indoor 55 meters Champion: 1976
·        Assistant Track Coach  1977 -82
 
He was a major part of SUNO’s Championship Teams and today still holds the college’s records for the:
·        100 yards - 9.2 seconds, 1974
·        100 meters – 9.83 seconds, 1975
·        200 meters – 20.87 seconds, 1976
·        55 meter – 6.32 seconds, 1977
He was ranked 6th in the USA and 10th in the world in the 100 meters in 1976.

Joseph and his teammates were the first to be inducted into SUNO's Hall of Fame in 2012.

There is no doubt that he is a legend and should be inducted into the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame.
