There is a high price to pay to bring seafood to your plate. Many of the fishing nets used by the fishing industry often entangles and kills excess wildlife. This is called bycatch. One of the biggest victims of bycatch are sea turtles, dolphins, and sharks. There is a solution. Turtle Excluder Devices (TEDs) can be fitted to nets to help these animals escape when they are caught in the nets.

Unfortunately, these devices are not universally used on nets that can catch larger animals. US regulation only requires shrimp trawlers to use TEDs. This petition seeks to expand the policy to include all commercial fishers to use TEDs if the nets are large enough to ensnare and kill larger animals like turtles and dolphins.

Please sign and share our petition asking the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration to expand their TED regulations. Taking this step will help save endangered turtles and prevent the horrible, needless loss of our ocean’s wildlife.
