Petition to Stop the Construction of a Hotel in the Village of New Hartford

Subject: Opposition to the Proposed Hotel Development in the Village of New Hartford, NY

We, the undersigned residents of New Hartford, strongly oppose the proposed construction of a hotel in our village. This development threatens the character, environment, and well-being of our community, and we urge the relevant authorities to reject the proposal and consider our plea.

Our concerns include:

1.      Lack of Community Consultation – The residents have not been adequately consulted about this project, and our voices must be heard in decisions that affect our village. Planning board meetings should be later in the evening, after 6pm to allow for working residents to attend. 

2.      Negative impact on the lifestyle of Community members particularly our school aged children- their ability to feel safe and free to walk the streets knowing the community knows who they are, who their parents are and someone is watching out for them. With the elementary and high school less than 3 blocks away the safety of our children is at stake. 

3.      Loss of Village Character – New Hartford is known for its peaceful and traditional atmosphere. A hotel will bring commercialization and disrupt the local way of life.

4.      Traffic and Infrastructure Strain – The influx of tourists will lead to congestion, increased noise levels, and pressure on local roads and utilities, which are not equipped to handle such demand. the last known traffic study was completed in 2015 when Byrne Dairy was proposed; that's nearly ten years ago. A new traffic study now that Bryne Dairy is there should be conducted during school hours. 

5.      Negative Effects on Local Businesses – A large commercial hotel may overshadow small local businesses, reducing opportunities for local entrepreneurs. 

We respectfully request that the local authorities reconsider this development and prioritize the preservation of our village’s environment, culture, and community spirit. We urge decision-makers to explore alternative projects that align with sustainable and community-friendly growth.
