NO to Reparations, YES to Repair - Restore St. Mary's Church, North Witham, Now!

Urgent Call to Restore St. Mary's Church – Petition to the Archbishop of Canterbury

We, the undersigned, stand together in a unified plea to the Most Reverend Justin Welby, Archbishop of Canterbury, and local Church authorities, to address the critical situation facing St. Mary’s Church in North Witham.

As a District Councillor and a committed member of our community, I refuse to accept the neglect that has befallen our beloved heritage. The theft of the church’s roof in 2019 has left it exposed and vulnerable, yet progress towards restoration has been painfully slow.

Our heritage, steeped in centuries of history and culture, cannot continue to crumble while resources are spent on reparations. The sacred walls of St. Mary’s Church, adorned with graffiti by Sir Isaac Newton himself, cry out for preservation. It is time to say NO to reparations and YES to repair!

We urge the Church of England to take swift and decisive action to secure the necessary funding and resources for the comprehensive repair of St. Mary’s Church. Our community is ready and willing to offer support, but we require leadership and commitment from the Church.

Failure to act promptly not only dishonours our past but also undermines the faith and resilience of our community. We implore Archbishop Welby to prioritise the restoration of St. Mary’s Church without further delay.

Join us in demanding action to preserve our heritage for future generations. Sign this petition and let your voice be heard!

#RestoreStMarysChurch

Sincerely,

Cllr Ben Green and concerned community members.
