SAVE OUR HEROES
Petition Update #2 - Conflicting statements by the BSP
As of 4pm today, our petition has garnered 3,693 signatures. We have obviously made noise and media is closely following our call to action. Let's continue to make noise until the BSP comes to its senses. Yesterday, Bangko Sentral ng PIlipinas Deputy Governor Mamerto Tamongan's statements contradicted the Dec 14 statement of BSP Governor Benjamin Diokno. Here are some salient points:
1. Diokno: "The BSP will continue to print the existing 1000-piso paper banknotes featuring the three heroes even as we circulate the new 1000-piso polymer banknotes.
VS
Tamongan: "BSP will continue to circulate P1,000 bills with the old [hero] design UNTIL STOCKS RUN OUT."
2. Diokno: "The National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP) has approved the design."
VS
Tamongan: "There was no need to consult the NHCP since there were no historical elements added."
(Yep, you did not add anything, you removed them! Diokno, in his earlier statement knew that any stamp, or banknote, or official document must bear the approval of the NHCP, hence his statement. But the NHCP was never consulted on this new design.)
Ano ba talaga, BSP?
BSP has tried to avert the basic question of "Why remove the heroes?" by stressing on the merits of polymer. Of this shift to polymer, we have no question. But of the removal of our heroes, we protest!
The overwhelming majority of the Filipino people is against this new 1k bill design. Let your voice be heard, sign the petition, and most importantly share!
