The Issue

As residents of the Sugar Wharf and Lido condominiums developed by Menkes Developments, many of us have experienced ongoing frustration with the high utility costs charged by Provident (an Energy Services Company).  Despite making consistent efforts to reduce and manage our energy consumption responsibly, residents continue to face excessively high monthly bills that place a growing financial strain on households throughout our community. For years, Provident has operated as the sole energy provider for these buildings, yet rates continue to increase without sufficient transparency, meaningful justification, or noticeable improvements in service. Many residents feel they have no choice but to accept these rising costs due to the lack of accessible alternatives.

It is time to explore better options.

Toronto Hydro, as well as other competitive local providers, may offer more transparent pricing, greater accountability, and reliable service that better serve residents’ needs. Introducing a fair and competitive energy solution could help reduce costs for homeowners and tenants while improving the overall quality of life within our community.

Access to affordable and sustainable energy also aligns with Toronto’s broader goals surrounding environmental responsibility, consumer fairness, and long-term sustainability. Seeking alternative providers would not only advocate for more reasonable pricing but also support energy solutions that prioritize efficiency, conservation, and community well-being.

We are calling on the condominium board, property management, and relevant stakeholders to begin discussions with Toronto Hydro and other potential providers to evaluate replacing Provident Energy as the primary utility supplier for Sugar Wharf and Lido residents. Residents deserve transparency, fairness, and access to affordable utility services. No community should feel locked into disproportionately high energy costs without viable alternatives.

Please sign this petition to support meaningful change for the Sugar Wharf and Lido community. Together, we can advocate for a fairer, more sustainable, and more affordable energy solution for all residents.

*Disclosure - Lido residents have been signing a physical petition through group meetings and in-person contacts, but due to ongoing challenges and restrictions from Lido management, this process has been compromised and delayed. We are still asking Lido residents to sign in person as well, but we also welcome them to sign this online version.  Please look out for future petition-signing meet-ups at local spaces outside the residence.
