Petition updateNo to proposed Welcome Bay Rd lights & HOV lane

IMPORTANT UPDATE - Community consultation later this month

Greetings all,

Tauranga City Council will be holding two events later this month regarding the proposed “upgrades” of Welcome Bay Road. They are only publicising the second one, for the reasons explained below in a recent email to myself (I am considered a “stakeholder”).

***Thank you for your interest in the workshop. Apologies for the confusion with the date, to confirm it is being held on Wednesday September 23, 10am-12pm. This is being run as an invite-only event to allow for small group discussion among a variety of stakeholders, including interested local residents such as yourself, local businesses and community groups, mana whenua representatives, Waipuna Park user groups, emergency services, local bus operators, transport advocacy groups (including cycling) and schools. If there are one or two individuals you think would make an important contribution to the discussion, please let us know and we can extend the invitation to them.

We do have a public drop-in session planned for Tuesday 29 September, from 5pm to 7pm, which will provide an opportunity for the wider community to learn more and share their feedback. We encourage anyone interested to attend the public session instead or complete the online survey.***

As a signatory of the petition, IMHO you are a stakeholder, so if you wish to attend the September 23rd workshop, please email the address below & express your interest.

transportcomms@tauranga.govt.nz

We need as many people as possible to turn up at both events, as TCC staff appear intent on proceeding with a slightly amended version of the original plan, in spite of being told several times by local residents to not do so.  I realise that the timing of both may prevent many of you from attending, which I suspect is the intention. If this is the case, please take a few minutes to email our ward councillor & let him know how you feel Hautapu.Baker@tauranga.govt.nz

Together, we can stop this.

Kind regards,

Rob
