Since we launched this petition 2 months ago over 100,000 of you have come together to say no to offshoring!
Firstly a huge thank you to everyone who's signed this petition, shared it, contacted their MP, donated to migrant rights organisations, gone on protests or been out on the street resisting immigration raids. With an overwhelmingly hostile press, and a Government seemingly hell bent on pushing this policy through, it can often feel like we're fighting a losing battle. However, the actions over so many over the last couple of months - whether it be the incredible resistance on the streets of South London this weekend, the heroic efforts of organisers, caseworkers and lawyers behind the scenes to help prevent people being deported or the simple act of pushing back against the narrative, have shown that's not the case.
The policy has been widely condemned by civil rights groups, MPs across the political spectrum and even, reportedly, Prince Charles.
The first flight to Rwanda is due to leave tomorrow (Tuesday 14th June). Of the around 130 people scheduled to be on the flight, only 31 remained as of Friday thanks to legal interventions. On Friday there was an urgent hearing in the High Court to try and get an injunction to stop the plane, as well as seeking a Judicial Review of the Rwanda policy. Whilst the injunction was denied, leave to appeal was granted - meaning the Court of Appeal will hear the case today. The High Court will hear the case for a JR at a later date.
Today (Monday 13th June), there will be a demonstration outside of the Home Office on Marsham Street beginning at 5:30pm calling on the Government to end the Rwanda policy. If you're in London and you're able to, please do head down. If you're not able to, please continue sharing this petition, reaching out to your elected representatives, getting in touch with your local anti-raids group or setting one up if there isn't one and sharing stories and news articles to your networks.
We can stop the plane and end the Rwanda deal, but only if we work together and come out in huge numbers in any way we can. Together we are strong, we can fight and we can win.
Thank you and solidarity,
x
