Bexley council - Say NO to HMO/Hostels

Bexley council - Say NO to HMO/Hostels
The Issue
NIGHTMARE NEIGHBOURS - MOVING NEXT DOOR TO YOU!
Property developers have recently bought a house on our street in Bexleyheath - a quiet road with schools nearby, where the residents are mostly families and retirees.
The developers intention is to convert what is currently a 2 bedroom family home into a HMO hostel (house in multiple occupancy) with 6 'bedsit' style rooms expected to be used as emergency council accommodation. Tenants could include recently released offenders, drug addicts and possibly worse.
Reported issues with having HMO's nearby have included (to name a few):
- No regard for residents.
- Anti social behaviour.
- Harmful impact on the character of the area.
- Difficulty selling their homes/decreased house prices.
- Security risk (burglary, theft)
The new owners of the property do not live in the Bexley borough, and have no regard for any of it's residents. They have bought and are continuing to buy properties in the Bexley borough for use as HMO hostels.
This is happening across the borough. This could affect any resident in Bexley if the council does not apply for additional powers to place restrictions on the use of properties in this manner. We've been advised that Bromley council did this some time ago to safe guard their borough and it's residents.
We have created a petition and need as many supporters against this as possible so that the council takes notice of it's residents concerns.
We cannot do this alone - please help by signing and sharing!!
Thank you for your support.
