Moorefield Station residents recently learned of Dominion Energy’s plan to install transmission lines and utility poles abutting our beautiful residential community.

The proposed project would run along Loudoun County Parkway and impact 600+ homes directly in Westmoore, Metrowalk, Moorefield Green, and the greater Moorefield Station area. It would also impact our neighbors in Loudoun Valley Estates.

Dominion Energy’s proposed ROUTE 1 option is for high voltage (500 kV) above ground power lines along Loudoun County Parkway and through the Moorefield area. 

Moorefield Station residents oppose ROUTE 1 for the reasons below: 

Visual Impact 

These towering structures are highly intrusive, disrupting the natural beauty or architectural harmony of an area. Their considerable size and height will dominate and alter the landscape, making scenic skylines less appealing.

Perceived Industrialization 

The presence of large power lines often imparts an industrial feel to an area, which will clash with our residential and natural preserved landscape. This industrial appearance will be jarring, reducing the charm and tranquility of our surroundings.

Plummeting Property Values

The eyesore, and perceived safety risk, from these lines can significantly harm property values; one report estimated the decline at as much as 25%. Drops in property values extend well beyond immediately affected streets, and reports indicate the declines are more drastic in affluent communities. 

• We strongly urge Supervisor Sylvia Glass to support the REJECTION of Route 1 and further PROMOTE Moorefield Station Residents preference for Route 2, Route 3 and or Route 4 of Golden to Mars. 

• We request the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors and the Loudoun County School Board permit Dominion Energy use of county and LCSB land for Golden to Mars along Routes 3/Green Line & Route 4/Blue Line. 

• We request Dominion Energy to consider our communities strong opposition to Route 1 and to reject Route 1 as preferential in their SCC application.
