No to clear backpacks

The Issue

These recent years in our school life, we are told we need to use clear/mesh backpacks, in order to "make the school safer." Here in the city of Del Rio, it has been continuously proven that this rule, is infact not working; with the previous threats and rumors of dangers in school. The only thing clear backpacks seem to be achieving, is reducing the space for students to store their supplies effectively. Not only are we with the constant fear that our backpack could rip at any moment, some are also unable to afford a good, resistant backpack. I've been noticing more and more students coming to school with no backpack, which can consequently cause their grades to lower: due to the loss of schoolwork that should be stored in their backpack. Most should know that the clear/mesh bags Walmart offers, are not resistant whatsoever, in theory, making us spend more. Some students are spending up to 50 dollars on backpacks from online websites for a backpack that may or may not last all year. Unfortunately, not all of us have that privilege.

On a second note, notice how the students who participate in sports are allowed in with big bulky non-clear bags? Sure they are some new rules on that, but what's stopping others from bringing one alike and saying they're in sports? That's just something to think about. Lately, teachers care more about what students are wearing, than what bags they carry, but that's a topic for another day.

What we needed to be and feel safe, were not clear backpacks. It's better security. Stop the clear backpack rule.
