In a story released today (http://yhoo.it/1DiYhtw), spokespeople for the Minister of National Revenue, the Minister of Finance, and the Minister of Status of Women had no comment about the tax on menstruation products. But 40,000 Canadians think it’s important and so does Member of Parliament Irene Mathyssen, who was loud and clear: We “pay this GST because the government doesn’t regard [menstrual hygiene products] as essential. In fact, they’re considered as luxury items. They’re not interested in these fairness issues. This has no resonance with them and that’s the frustration.” So let’s tell them it’s important through all means necessary: Tweet at @KerryLynneFindl, @joeoliver1, @KellieLeitch, and our Prime Minister, @pmharper, to tell them that it’s time for #notaxontampons. Remember, the government does not table online petitions. We’ve sent decision makers over 40,000 emails (so they know we are here) but please remember to print, sign, and send in a hard copy of the petition: Twitter: https://twitter.com/CDNMenstruators Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/CDNMenstruators Instagram: http://instagram.com/cdnmenstruators Pinterest: https://www.pinterest.com/cdnmenstruators/ #NoTaxOnTampons
