NO SOLAR ON AGRICULTURE LAND IN SHELBY COUNTY

NO SOLAR ON AGRICULTURE LAND IN SHELBY COUNTY
The Issue
RWE/Graceland Solar plans to put a 1,482 acre Industrial Solar Plant in the Millington area. This area encompasses south of Pleasant Ridge Rd to the Loosahatchie River, as far west as Ral-Mill Rd and east to Old Covington Pike.
2.3 square miles of existing farmland would be replaced with over 400,000 solar panels. The environment, wildlife and resident property values would be significantly harmed.
INDUSTRIAL SOLAR PLANTS DO NOT BELONG ON CONSERVATION AGRICULTURE LAND!!
Solar plants belong on industrial zoned land and brownfields.
- Prime farmland should not be taken out of production for this purpose.
- The beauty of North Shelby County would be irreversibly damaged.
- Property values would greatly diminish. There are over 1,200 homes within a one mile radius of this solar plant. Declines are due to visual impact, continuous generator-like noise, contamination of water, poor drainage management and habitat degradation.
- Agribusiness would suffer from lost patronage from these farmers.
- Drinking water and underground streams would be affected by the erosion and toxic runoff.
- Wildlife habitat would be affected by the fencing barriers, heat, and noise from these facilities.
- There would be very little positive impact to our county: Power is allocated to Meta/FB in Gallatin, TN NOT Shelby County It will NOT reduce our electricity bills. It will not provide any new jobs to Shelby County
We are demanding the Shelby County Government protect its citizens and deny industrial solar plants on conservation agriculture land.
