No Pet Left Behind: Establishing pet friendly rental regulations in Nova Scotia

The Issue

NO PETS? NO WAY!

Nova Scotia renters are being forced to give up important family members (pets) by the introduction of "no pets" policies by landlords across the province. Some people are choosing to live in tents or vehicles rather than surrender their pets. Renters who have had pets living with them in their apartments for many years are being forced to get rid of them when buildings are sold to new owners. Some landlords are even using no pets policies as a form of pet-eviction so they can renovate and increase the rent for the new tenant!

As a result of these draconian measures, we now have another homeless pet crisis developing across Nova Scotia. Shelters and rescues are full and unable to take in any more pets. Many animals are being abandoned to fend for themselves on the street. This will eventually lead to an increase in unwanted litters and even more homeless pets as the population explodes.

The Nova Scotia Government needs to act NOW before the problem gets any worse! A simple change in the regulations that prevents no pets rental policies will help keep Nova Scotian families together.
