                           NO PESTICIDES IN OUR PRESIDIO

Sign this petition if you want the Presidio Trust to stop spraying killing chemicals (pesticides) in our Presidio park. 

“Cide” means to kill and it is not just killing the weeds. When sprayed it affects all living things and the water flowing into the ground, ocean, and bay. 

Dog walkers, people with children, elderly community members, and anyone who loves this park and wants it to be clean and safe from toxins for all please sign this petition.

We will bring it to the Presidio Trust Board when we have enough signatures.

The Presidio’s goal as a national park is to be a: “Model of Environmental Stewardship”. Let’s help them get there by being the first urban park to use absolutely no pesticides.

The Presidio Trust has been spraying the following herbicides in the park:

• RoundUp (glyphosate)
• Rodeo (glyphosate)
• CheetahPro (glufosinate ammonium)

There are many other effective non-toxic solutions:

• Steam-generated weed sprayer
• Vinegar
• Hand-pulling
• Goats
• Organic sprays that are approved for organic agriculture
• Leaving certain areas more wild and natural, it is a national park

Let’s set an example to the rest of the country and be the first to have NO PESTICIDES IN OUR PRESIDIO!

According to the Green Flag Award, which the Presidio has won consecutively over the past few years, “pesticides should not be used” because:

“The use of chemical pesticides has been shown to reduce biodiversity, to cause adverse health effects and to contaminate the environment. Children, elderly and the infirm make up a significant proportion of visitors, and they are also most vulnerable. Pesticide exposure is likely to be involuntary - members of the public do not know where and when they have been applied and can not choose to avoid them. Even small quantities of weedkiller sprayed on paths and other hard surfaces are easily washed down drains and contaminate groundwater.”
