Email Input from WA's passionate Pro Roe 8 petitioners - Thank you:
It is imperative for the prosperity of our great State to attend this rally
Please bring as many people as possible along to make your position known It's time for the silent majority to now let our government (and local councils) know just how many normal everyday people still want and respectfully demand Roe 8 to be completed.
Just as the very vocal minority had their right to protest against Roe Hwy - we the majority now have our right stand up and let our politicians know that the cancellation of Roe 8 went completely against the wishes of the majority.
Numerous Roe 8 poll and surveys taken showed there were more West Australians in favour of Roe then there were against it.
Mr McGowan you did not need to take a stand against Roe 8 before the election – you were going to win the election no matter what and regardless of the previous government's handling of Roe 8 building this road is the right thing for WA.
The planning and gazetting of land for Roe 8 started in 1955. A simple google earth search of the area will show that the corridor and tract of land was gazetted years ago in preparation for Roe Highway when the city reached the growth required to sustain it.
Roe 8 will take a huge load of trafc of our southern road corridors and local streets. Roe 8 will drastically lower levels of congestion and also air pollutants.
All great transport systems include aspects of road, rail, pedestrian and cycling infrastructure so Labor's plans for Metronet rail throughout Perth is a great idea for the long term but only if part of an overall transport network strategy. Labor has every right to stand proudly behind its rail achievements in Perth so any future funded rail network is commendable.
Metro Net however will not solve the incredible and growing catastrophic traffic congestion in the southern suburbs and the original ring road planning from the East. Metro Net is 5 to 10
years away from being built – just how bad is the congestion on our roads now let alone in a year or 2 year or 5 years. Like it or not people – Perth is a car city and that will never change. Not everyone can can a train due to numerous family and work situations.
Premier please do not think you can not change your mind on Roe 8. Over time you and your advisors will come to see the absolute logic in looking at Roe 8 again. If Roe 8 is indeed logical as many believe it is, then over time it will only become increasingly obvious to everyone to consider the below plan for the full completion of Roe 8.
Please Premier dont waste money on ridiculous band aid fixes to Leach Highway.
The ultimate and absolute win win solution here is Roe 8 to Stock Road as planned and then tunnel all the way from Stock Road to under the river all the way directly into the Port. Zero truck bottlenecks at High Road – a completely seamless journey for cars to Fremantle and trucks into and out of the Port.
They built a tunnel under the entire English Channel 20 years ago – surely we can manage to tunnel under a few hundred meters of the Swan River. Cities all over the world have massive tunnel and transport systems under vast waterways.
If it is indeed true Premier that the Port of Fremantle actually has at least 30 to 40 years of capacity left in it can you please explain why you would spend billions and billions on a completely unnecessary outer harbour that will also be the death knell of Cockburn Sound
which is an environmental sanctuary so crucial for snapper and marine breeding grounds and sea grasses. Not to mention the destruction of hectares of virgin untouched banksia woodlands through the Beeliar Wetlands that will need to be destroyed from the Freeway down Anketell Road to the new outer harbour.
Where is the logic of saving 0.49% (less the half a percent!) of the bush lands that Roe 8 was going to need to trade of against spending billions on an outer harbour that is not even needed and will decimate and destroy that last semblance of health in the treasure that is Cockburn Sound.
How can the WA Greens ever be taken seriously again by saying they actually support what will be the total and final destruction of Cockburn Sound ? The last election proved that Labor does not need to pander or rely on preferences from the out of control Greens. Labor won the election in it's own right!
Normal rational every day West Australians love the natural environs of Perth – but the Roe 8 debacle is the absolute height of hypocrisy as only in the la la land of politics could anyone seriously consider trading and saving 0.49% of Roe 8 bush lands over what will be the final death knell of the Cockburn Sound marine area as an ocean ecosystem sanctuary.
Premier only you can save Cockburn Sound (and also save the State billions & billions of dollars) and solve the catastrophic traffic congestion by building Roe 8 – as was planned for by our seemingly much wiser forefathers over 50 years ago.
Roe 8 should never have been allowed to become such a divisive issue in WA and the previous government has much to answer for in regards to this. Every West Australian wants safer and better roads – every West Australian should care for and want the best for our environment and we should all also want the absolute best in public transport and trains to get cars of our roads.
But Leach Highway and the southern corridor is a catastrophe right now and it's only going to get worse – so it is such a shame for Perth that politics and the terribly divisive poor Roe planning and implementation sees such a clear solution hanging in limbo.
The silent majority MUST NOW MAKE A STAND by attending the Pro Roe Rally at Parliament House on May the 11th.
Mike Nahan and Mark McGowan will be invited to address so we all must attend this & bring as many people as possible along.
