AN HOUR OF COMMENTS! At Tuesday night's Orange city council meeting, 18 of us filled an hour with public comments opposing the project and requesting a new EIR!
THANK YOU to everyone who attended, spoke, submitted comments and spread the word! Your participation was crucial in creating legal standing and demonstrating in a public forum that the city must hold themselves accountable and address our concerns.
NEXT STEPS:
1) REQUEST AGENDA ITEM We need you to request that the Orange City Council agendize the request for a new EIR to ensure that they address our concerns publicly. Residents of Orange are especially encouraged to reach out to their council members. Here's the email template: https://bit.ly/NOHAgenda
2) MEDIA ATTENTION We need you to get more attention in the newspaper, television, at public events, on social media. Make videos, write letters to editors, write guest commentaries, write articles, post on Instagram, Tiktok, Nextdoor, Facebook, etc. If you are creative, outspoken, memorable, enthusiastic, colorful and fun, you'll attract more attention. Organize publicity stunts!
3) DISTRIBUTE SIGNS & POSTCARDS We need you to pick up signs and postcards from my place and distribute ASAP!
4) RETAIN A LAWYER We're in the process of engaging multiple attorneys, but we need you to find the evidence that supports a case, including examples of noncompliance, extensions, violations of current laws, etc. We also need you to raise funds, including apply for grants and appeal to donors, to pay for legal services.
5) ANALYZE REQUESTED PUBLIC RECORDS We need you to help analyze the public records requests related to permit information, correspondence and evidence of compliance from Caltrans, OCTA, CDFW, USACE and CIty of Orange.
7) COMMUNITY OUTREACH We need you to engage the public at trailheads, street corners, markets, public events.
6) TAKE INITIATIVE Now is the time to act! Our petition is at 15,181 signatures and continues to grow!
