No More Truck Stops or Gas Stations on Exit 26

No More Truck Stops or Gas Stations on Exit 26
The Issue
Exit 26 used to be a peaceful residential exit with minimal traffic, minimal crime, zero homelessness, two gas stations, a Dollar General, a Dairy Queen and over 300 homes within a mile of the I-10 on ramp.
The recent developments in the area have created numerous issues and safety hazards for the residents at exit 26. Case No. 2023-31-RSS aka Quick Trip no. 7284 will further these issues.
The residents around the zoning request and possible development of a QT Truck Stop at Exit 26 are greatly opposed.
This is a petition to the Santa Rosa County Commissioners
District 1: Sam Parker- Vice Chairman
District 2: Kerry Smith
District 3: James Calkins
District 4: Ray Eddington
District 5: Colten Wright- Chairman
to stop the development of Case No. 2023-31-RSS aka Quick Trip no. 7284.
- Currently the major increase in traffic and transfer trucks with zero safety corrections made to Garcon Point Road have made it dangerous for anyone trying to travel onto Garcon Point Road.
- The increase in truck noise can be heard in every neighborhood and home in this area. Another gas station would increase the noise drastically as this one would clear the only vegetation buffer we have from the increase in traffic on Garcon Point Road.
- The lighting for this gas station will further take away our beautiful starry nights as it will be even closer to the residents in the area. Our once beautiful view is now plagued with bright gas station lights.
- The increase in crime and homelessness has significantly increased. Another truck stop will only further this growing issue. We have had to routinely call on the Sheriffs Department for assistance with trespassers, abandoned vehicles and stolen property.
- Garcon Point Road is damaged daily due to the trucks hitting the guardrails and road way signs. This gas station will only increase the growing damage issue.
- The increase of trash and debris along the road has made Garcon Point Road a disgusting site. This gas station will again, only increase the amount of trash thrown onto Garcon Point Road.
- The recent developments have already had an impact on the surrounding areas property values and have turned off potential buyers from the area. Again, this will majorly impact property values as it is closer to the homes and will over run Exit 26 with Truck Stops and Gas Stations.
- Further more this proposed plan will reroute Slalom Dr. The residents of Ski Watch Estates and the county road sign crew finally fixed the issue with transfer trucks driving daily into the community down Slalom Dr. Since there is NO turn around for transfer trucks, these trucks cost Ski Watch thousands of dollars in property damage. The proposed layout of the QuickTrip will make that issue resurface with an exit from the Truck Stop being placed on Slalom Dr.
County Commissioners, We ask that you DO NOT approve this gas station/truck stop or any other gas station at Exit 26. Three is plenty! We loved our Exit prior to the truck stops, we do not need another one!
