WE THE PEOPLE of the United States, in a unified voice, call for an end to the harmful practice of spreading toxic sewage sludge across America’s soils and implore that federal leaders take immediate action toward safe and lasting solutions.

 

The land application of toxic sewage sludge on America’s soils is harming our people, our farmers, and our nation by spreading dangerous pollutants—including forever chemicals, pathogens, and other toxic contaminants—into the lives and life-sustaining resources of the American people. 40 CFR Part 503, the federal rule that promotes this practice, conflicts with the first duty of the American government: to protect its people.

 

We ask the President of the United States, the Secretary of Health and Human Services, the Administrator of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the Secretary of Agriculture, and the United States Congress to act urgently to:

1. Stop the use and disposal of toxic sewage sludge on America’s soils; and
2. Commit to infrastructure solutions that reduce and safely destroy sewage solids.
