No More "No-More-Than-Four"

No More "No-More-Than-Four"
The Issue
The City of College Station currently has a policy colloquially called "No-More-Than-Four." This city ordinance criminalizes students who live in homes with more than four unrelated people (total), regardless of home size or number of bedrooms. As a criminal ordinance, it punishes students with a fine up to $2,000.00 and a misdemeanor per violation. As a civil penalty, fines can be up to $500 a day. Some areas are even limited to no more than two unrelated.
With rent in College Station soaring, and tens of thousands of students in need of residential housing, many are forced to split rent just to keep a roof over their heads.
By signing this petition, we are urging the state of Texas and the College Station City Council to eliminate occupancy restrictions based on consanguinity and instead base occupancy limits on demonstrated health and safety standards.
College Station strives to enforce the no-more-than four housing law
This petition will be brought to the state legislature and the College Station City Council later this year.
