If you were invited to hike "coastal oak woodlands...a vital wildlife corridor, protected plant species, and thriving wildlife," would you think you'd be visiting one of California's most toxic superfund sites? That's why we need help to warn hikers who will be attending the Boeing Company's "Earth Day" hike at the Santa Susana Field Lab in the hills outside Los Angeles.

What they don't know could kill them.

Boeing is opening the Santa Susana Field Lab to the general public for hikes across its property to celebrate Earth Day. It's greenwashing at its worst. Boeing is trying to make the site seem safe so that they don't have to pay for its complete cleanup.

But it's not safe. It's contaminated with TCE, federally banned pesticides, PCBs, dioxins, toxic metals like lead and mercury, and radionuclides from multiple nuclear accidents onsite. The contamination is invisible in the soil, but it's still incredibly dangerous, especially to pregnant women and children.

If you live near Los Angeles, would you be able to help us?

Boeing is going to make the hikers sign a long waiver that says they won't sue if they get cancer, but besides that, they won't be given any warning about the site's real danger. We'll be right outside, warning hikers as they go in and handing out PPE and information on how to decontaminate to anyone who decides to risk it. We want to try to minimize their chances of being harmed by making sure they don't track the contamination into their cars or homes.

The last time we protested Boeing's hike, we had several people turn around and go home. They said they had no idea what they were getting into and that it wasn't worth the risk. It's up to us to warn our community again this year.
