I vividly remember the day I got a phone call and heard a doctor say, "I'm so sorry, but your daughter has cancer." It wasn't until a year later that we learned our family lived within miles of one of America's worst nuclear meltdown sites, the Santa Susana Field Lab.
Our story isn't unique. It's happening to thousands of other families across America who live near other contaminated sites. And their kids are also being diagnosed with cancer and other illnesses. This shouldn't be happening in America, but we can change it if we work together. That's why I'm hoping you'll join me this September in Washington, D.C.
Join thousands of Scientists, Activists, and Families for cancer-free Environments (SAFE) as we protest in front of the federal EPA building in Washington D.C. on September 20, 2022. Help us tell the EPA that every child in America deserves to grow up safe from contaminated water, air, and soil.
