No More IPS Charters

No More IPS Charters
The Issue
In light of ongoing concerns about fully funding the schools within Indianapolis Public Schools (IPS), we are demanding that the Indianapolis Public Schools Board of Commissioners rescind Resolution 8020 and enact a moratorium on accepting agreements with partners to establish new charter schools within the Innovation Network of IPS.
Our public schools are the cornerstone of the communities that they serve. They are inclusive environments that cater to diverse needs, fostering a sense of community and provide quality education for all students they serve. We must prioritize and strengthen our public education system to ensure it remains robust and capable of effectively serving every child.
The unchecked expansion of charter schools poses significant financial challenges to the sustainability of IPS schools. These challenges include diverting critical funding and resources away from our schools, potential disparities in student outcomes, and issues related to accountability and transparency. It is essential to address these concerns to safeguard the integrity and effectiveness of our public education system.
We demand that the Indianapolis Public Schools Board of Commissioners implement a moratorium on new charter school agreements and the expansion of existing ones. This pause will allow for a thorough evaluation of the impact of charter schools on our school district and facilitate informed decision-making moving forward.
