No more dog poo on our pavements in Coleham!
No more dog poo on our pavements in Coleham!
The Issue

My name is Josie Edwards and I've started this petition because I'm cross about the dog poo that I keep seeing on the pavement in my neighborhood. I'm seven years old and even I know that if you have a pet it is your job to pick up their mess. So many grownups take their dogs out for a walk and do not clean up after them and it is gross! Sometimes people even accidentally step in the poo and that is yucky. In my neighborhood there are lots of old people and children like me going to school and the poo is no good!
I would like our council to do three things:
1. Clean the pavement on our street and around my school more often.
2. Put up clear signs in my neighbourhood to remind people to pick up their dogs poos and clean the area properly.
3. Put up a unit and signs offering free dog poo bags on either side of Greyfriars bridge so people can grab them from there if they forgot to bring their own.
My mum helped me to do some research about why dog poo on our streets is a problem and this is what we found out:
1. According to a study conducted by The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), dog feces can contain harmful bacteria such as E.coli, Salmonella, and parasites like roundworms or hookworms.
2. These pathogens can survive in soil for long periods, posing ongoing risks even after the initial incident.
3. A survey conducted by Keep Britain Tidy found that 73% of people believed dog fouling was one of the most significant environmental issues affecting their local area.
School is starting again soon and there will be lots of children walking in the street again. It is really important that we do something to stop the dog poo on the pavement! By signing this petition, you are supporting me to get the council to make change. If you are a dog owner I hope you will think about picking up your dog poo appropriately. I hope that you will remember that the streets are for everybody and even if you don't live on them, somebody else does so don't leave mess on their doorstep.
Sign this petition today to make a difference! Together we can make a change and get rid of dog poo on our pavements.
Thank you for your support!
