Thank you to all who have signed the petition to demand NO MORE DATA CENTERS in St. Louis! The fight for a moratorium on data centers in St. Louis isn’t over yet.

We now have over 10,000 signatures (wow!) thanks to you! Keep sharing so we can blow past 10,000 and show Mayor Spencer and our alders how we overwhelmingly feel about data centers in our city.

Our next call-to-action is tomorrow, *Wednesday October 1st 3:30pm, at City Hall in Kennedy Room 208 for the Public Infrastructure and Utilities Committee Meeting*. (Arrive early to sign-up to speak.) Link here for more information on tomorrow’s meeting and zoom link:  Public Infrastructure and Utilities Committee Meeting

We need people to testify against all future data center proposals by stating, in your own words, “We need a moratorium going forward so St. Louis can make informed decisions based on all the facts and statistics of other data centers and the harms they cause, like Elon Musk’s Memphis data center for ‘Grok’ which has caused extreme pollution and irreversible harm for residents there.”

“Memphis’s dealings with Elon Musk provide a textbook example of how the people who contribute the least to environmental harm often suffer the most from it.”

St. Louis has a long history of environmental racism, redlining, and blight, specifically in North and West St. Louis City which disproportionately affects black residents.

We say, enough! It’s time the City of St. Louis and the Board of Aldermen put the lives of residents before money hungry corporations and developers, who use tax abatements and TIFs to extract and steal wealth and resources from our communities, pollute our air and water, and increase inflation in our local economy which disproportionately affects black children in St. Louis.

Our neighbors on the North and West sides have barely recovered from May’s tornado, and we somehow want to approve an artificial intelligence data center in our city, which as far as we know will cause irreversible harm for current and future generations, while providing minimal benefits to us?

Who does this serve?

We look forward to seeing a packed room tomorrow to show your opposition at City Hall or on Zoom.  If you can not make it to the city infrastructure and utilities hearing Wednesday October 1st at 3:30 pm, please email your testimony about why you think St. Louis a moratorium on data centers to the Board of Alderman Clerk- Terry Kennedy at : boameetings@stlouis-mo.gov

In the words of the late great revolutionary Assata Shakur who passed away in Cuba last week, and whose words have echoed throughout local movements in the fight for racial justice, “It is our duty to fight for our freedom. It is our duty to win. We must love and support each other. We have nothing to lose but our chains.”
