Hello Everyone, 

Welcome to The Uproar at Return Strong! We have been working to disrupt the approval of revisions to AR750-general mail correspondence and the changes that would come with that revision. 

Some of you may not fully understand what is happening and why this tactic is appropriate to fight back on these revisions. 

While NDOC, Director Daniels signed off on this revision, it MUST be passed by the Board of Prison Commissioners in order to become policy. Daniels signed it August 9th, but they should not be implementing it anywhere until it has been approved by the BoPC. 

Right now, it is on the agenda for August 30th for discussion and "possible action" Our voice and stories and ROAR is the only thing stopping this immediately. There are jailhouse lawyers, and probably civil rights lawyers working on developing a case to stop it, and that is great, but the only thing that will stop it NOW, is us. Together. All of our different voices with the same ROAR. The same message.

If we can stop them from taking action on Tuesday, they can't implement the policy before the next quarterly meeting in the 4th quarter. 
Which gives us time to build a campaign with data, research, media and expert testimony that can stop it permanently. 

Right now, there are several ways to get involved: 

1. Sign and share the petition2. Media Opportunities-let me know if you are interested in participating
3. Give a public comment at the Pack the Room Event person in either Las Vegas or         Carson City.
4. Send a written comment to the Board of Prison Commissioners PRIOR to the event so that they can read it. 
(They say the will read it if they get it in time-the deadline is Monday 8/29 at 9pm but guaranteed if you do that, they won't get read prior to the commissioners meeting-Get it out as early tomorrow as possible)

Pack the Room 
Pack the room is a tactic which shows our collective  power. It forces the Governor, AG and Secretary of State to see how many people will show up for their loved ones. We give our statements ,which they are forced to listen to and make them look us in the eye while we ask them NOT to take no action on the AR revisions at this time.

Best Practices for In Person/Pack the Room
1. Sign in when you get there
2. Make sure your statement is 2 minutes or less (they say 3 min on the agenda but they tune you out. 2 minutes is plenty)
3. Time your statement and make sure you can clearly say it without rushing or getting cut off. We want them to hear every word. 
4. Be clear and concise. 
5. Include your first and last name. If you are not comfortable, use an alias, no one will know. 
6. Borrow an extra tee shirt (I can't guarantee how many we will have unless you pre-order)
7. Do not talk trash about the BoPC. Yeah, they drive us nuts and NDOC drives us nuts BUT that won't get us what we want. We need them to see us not as aggressors but "victims". I know, I hate it too but, sometimes you get more bees with honey. We want to be honest, direct but not aggressive. Emotional, yes. Aggressive, no. Got it? 

Best Practices for Written Statements: 
1. Get them ASAP. Sorry for the late directions we have been juggling a lot and working 16 hour days to make it happen. You just need to send the letter as early as possible on Friday although the true deadline is Monday 8/29 at 9 pm. If you want it read prior to the meeting, try to get it there by 3 pm Friday if possible. 
2. All of the above apply. Include first and last name or alias. 
3. Do not talk trash. 
4. Be clear and concise 
5. MAKE THE ASK that is above. Do not take action on this revision today.
