Layoffs at one UPS facility are layoffs for all of us - no area, no shift, no building is an island. Our union leadership must answer hard questions this Sunday at 10 AM during the union meeting:
- Why weren’t automation protections, like those supported for dockworkers by our union president Sean O’Brien, included in our contract?
- Why didn’t leadership act when they shut down the day shift, a clear warning sign?
- How many more jobs will be lost, and will there truly be a net gain in full-time inside jobs with so many layoffs on the horizon?
UPS reported $91 billion in revenue in 2023 and remains highly profitable, generating billions in earnings while implementing automation that threatens our livelihoods. Their leadership emphasizes innovation, yet where is the protection for the workers who drive their success? These contradictions demand accountability.
Automation may improve efficiency, but without proper safeguards, it comes at the cost of people’s lives and communities. Let’s stand united and demand the justice and transparency we deserve.
Show up this Sunday. Ask tough questions. Stand together.
