No Immunity for Glyphosate Manufacturers Facing Cancer Lawsuits

The Issue

Tens of thousands of Americans have filed lawsuits alleging that exposure to glyphosate-based herbicides like Roundup caused non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma.

Juries have awarded major verdicts. A $7.25 billion settlement has been proposed to resolve many of those claims.

And yet, instead of ensuring accountability, the federal government is now moving to boost glyphosate production under the Defense Production Act.

Even more alarming, the executive order could extend liability protections to manufacturers — shielding them from lawsuits brought by cancer patients and their families.

Scientific bodies have reached differing conclusions about glyphosate’s cancer risk. That debate should strengthen transparency and accountability — not weaken it. When credible health concerns exist and thousands of families are seeking justice in court, companies must not be granted sweeping immunity.

We call on President Donald Trump and Congress to ensure that no executive action, Farm Bill provision, or federal rule shields glyphosate manufacturers from legitimate cancer lawsuits.

If companies are confident in their product’s safety, they should be willing to defend it in court.

Protect cancer patients’ right to seek justice.
No immunity. No special protections. Equal accountability under the law.
