Hello there, our names are Mahon, Luca, Senan, and Robbie.
We are writing to ask that homework is banned for primary schools. You may be asking, why
should we ban it? Well, kids should be outside all evening and not be inside doing homework
for the evening. There are many other reasons why it should be banned. Such as, we are
only young once, and we should get our evening to ourselves. We are also tired after six
hours of school and find it very hard to concentrate for another two hours of work at home.
And we do not see the benefit of homework as nothing sinks in when you’re tired and there
are also many distractions at home that could interfere with our work.
Now teachers always say, “Were preparing you for secondary school” Well homework is just
basically extra work and if you wish to prepare us for secondary school why not give us
projects or assignments every week. We could have fun Maths, English, or Irish
assignments, or general knowledge, history or geography projects. Instead of having to
basically study all night. This will teach us to develop our research skills by accessing
libraries and information available online.
We are planning to send the message to over 2,000 schools in Ireland, and hopefully we can
get up to 500,000 signatures of school kids who support this.
