As we reach 1000 supporters, we owe you ALL a huge THANK YOU! If you're local, a public meeting will be held Friday, February 5th at the Grand Marais community center beginning at 6pm to solidify our agenda and overall strategy to block development of Dollar General in Grand Marais. As a direct result of our petition, Grand Marais city council is holding a special meeting on Monday, February 8th, at 5pm at town hall. The agenda for the special meeting will be to allow local residents to speak as well as to make a decision on what the city council will be doing in regard to retail development in their scheduled meeting on Wednesday, February 10th. The more people that attend Monday's meeting, the better. This is our chance to stop the Dollar General store development in it's tracks. City council has the power to issue a temporary moratorium on all business development in Grand Marais in order to have the time necessary to fairly and adequately address the complex issues at hand. We need to advocate that this action be taken. If it is not, Dollar General can legally and legitimately ask the city for a building permit at any time. Once this permit is issued, the options for successfully blocking the development of the store are greatly reduced. I (Lisa Gergets) have set up a Facebook group to keep everyone abreast of news related to this issue. You can locate that group here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/nodollargeneral/. Even though you have signed the petition, there is still MORE you can do to help! SHARE the petition on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc. and ASK for signatures. USE this printable paper petition to collect signatures of those who don't have internet access: http://lisagergets.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/02/Petition.pdf COMMENT on the petition if you haven't already, stating why you're against Dollar General in Grand Marais. Finally, please get the word out that we are seeking an ATTORNEY licensed in Minnesota that would be willing to offer pro bono legal counsel on this issue. Again, a big thank you to all supporters - your efforts are so greatly appreciated!
