Amid the ongoing push for the construction of data centres across Canada, the interests and desires of the population are not being adequately heard by the industry behind the construction. Data centres do immense harm to local communities through destruction of the environment, social pressure, consumption of resources, and polarization of the community, all to further projects which the public has not requested and does not support. The health and strength of local communities should not be gambled to facilitate these projects, despite the immense pressure for their construction coming from governments and corporations who have already invested enormous amounts of money into the projects. We, the people of Canada, are struggling, and the expenditure and mobilization of resources for data centres only furthers our troubles, as they only contribute to widening the wealth gap and exacerbating existing issues. 

For these reasons, I am opposed to the construction of a data centre in our area. With the municipality discussing "provincial coordination related to industrial lands surrounding Bruce Power and opportunities for energy-intensive uses", according to a Municipality of Kincardine Facebook post on August 18, I feel the need to speak out early and voice my opposition to the intrusion of a data centre into our community. 

Kincardine Council, we urge you not to invest in this project without public consultation. 

To the Government of Ontario, we urge you to prioritize the good of your people over industrial projects.
