So Alachua sent an email saying all backpacks must be clear, which doesn't make sense. There are several flaws in their reasoning, and I will explain them. First of all, they say clear backpacks will help people recognize if students have illegal items in their possession. While this may be true, it's not strong reasoning. Illicit items can also be stored in pockets, so what's next, transparent clothing? Also, clear backpacks are notorious for being weak. They can't hold a lot of weight, and they are usually cheaply made. Clear bags are also almost always small, so we students can't fit our many binders and textbooks inside. Clear backpacks also make it easy for people to see and steal other students' items, as middle and high school students like to steal and vandalize items belonging to other students. As you can see, clear backpacks are more of a detriment than anything. While the administration's intentions are good, they clearly didn't think it through.
