The petition to save Old Green roundabout is to be submitted shortly.
This Saturday, there will also be an exclusive column in the South Wales Argus outlining my views that installing a ‘three way’ or ‘four way’ traffic light junction on the Old Green will trigger traffic chaos in our city centre.
Removing the roundabout will take us back 50 years to days of daily traffic queues and congestion. There was a reason they built the roundabout in 1975. It works!
There remain big questions over the viability of making the changes. The whole project is mooted to cost in the region of £40 million. It is money that could be better spent on improving Commercial Street or the High Street.
Nobody asked for these changes. Very few want them.
Many thanks for signing the petition. We will send a firm message to Newport Council and the Welsh Government that the proposed changes are not wanted.
Kind Regards,
Michael Enea
