The destruction of the Chartist murals by John Frost Square was appalling. We cannot allow this to happen again. We must protect the murals on the Old Green roundabout.

We must protect and preserve Newport’s great history and heritage - not destroy it.

Nobody called for the proposed changes to the Old Green roundabout. Nobody asked for it. Nobody wants it.

The plans to remove the roundabout and replace it with a traffic system will cost an obscene amount of money. We could be looking in excess of £10 million? This is money that should be better on improving our City Centre.

In 1975, they built the roundabout for a very good reason. They built it to improve the traffic flow going into the City Centre. Removing the roundabout and revert - back - to a traffic light system is a step backwards. It is a crazy proposal all in the name of active travel.

The impact this could have on our City Centre, that is already struggling, could be catastrophic.

I wanted to personally thank you for signing the petition. It is greatly appreciated.

I know a lot of people say that petitions don’t work and are often overlooked. I remember launching a petition to reopen the Splash Park at Tredegar Park. I campaigned robustly for years. I never gave up. A success! I launched a petition to stop car parking charges at the Glebelands Park. A success! I launched a petition to stop three weekly bin collections in 2014/15. A success that delayed the roll-out by ten years. 

Petitions can work. The council do sit up and take notice.
