NO CARR FARM EFFLUENT PIPE IN LAKE THOMAS, FALL RIVER

The Issue

The Carr Farm development plans to put an effluent pipe into Lake Thomas in Fall River. The lake is part of the Shubenacadie Canal system. 75 million litres of effluent per year will be piped from the site, down two roads, through the developer's property and into the lake. There are many ethical and environmental concerns we the undersigned have. This information was withheld in the initial community meetings and the effluent will potentially increase the phosphorus loading into the lake.  Current sewage treatments  do not remove pharmaceuticals from waste water. The pipe will negatively effect the health of the lake, the wildlife that live and drink in the waterway, the recreational value and the water quality for people who draw drinking water from the lake. We are asking that the pipe NOT be allowed and that the developer deal with his sewage on site.
