NO (BESS) LITHIUM BATTERY ENERGY on GREENS RD WEST

The Issue

The proposed Bridgeside Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) site, between Hwy 54 and Greens Rd W in Haldimand County, ON, Canada poses significant risks to our Community!

These projects can have potential environmental impacts, including possible contamination of local water sources AND disruption to wildlife habitats.

Furthermore, there are concerns about the safety of such storage systems due to incidents of fires at similar facilities in New York State, Arizona and California to name a few.

DID :

YOU or YOUR DAD or YOUR NEIGHBOUR work in the gypsum mine here in Caledonia?
Were YOU a CALEDONIA HIGH SCHOOL student who was lucky enough to see the expanse of the mine tunnels first hand during the annual Grade Nine Geography trip?

 AS YOU KNOW:

The lands North West of Caledonia are UNDER MINED. Many of Us know, first hand, how far and vast the tunnel systems are, only 70 feet below us  in this area.

The Proposed BESS Installation site will be situated on farm land that is UNDERMINED. SINKHOLES have and will continue to be an occurrence!  Collapse and Explosion of such a site with the WEIGHT of a 300 megawatt Lithium Battery Storage facility is too great a risk for our Community!

WHO WILL BE IMPACTED?

Capstone is proposing to place this faculty on UNDERMINED, SINKHOLE vulnerable land approximately 3KM West of Caledonia, at the north end of tiny Harrison Rd. Friends and Neighbors residing in Caledonia, Six Nations, Middleport and Carluke have the potential to be effected by explosion, fire or toxic gas plumes. Environmental consequences to our water and wildlife could also be a potential.

This facility requires an industrial location in order to run safely and effectively. Many other counties and communities throughout the province have  very recently voted against the placement of these facilities on precious Ontario Agricultural lands.

But SPECIFICALLY in relation to this Site, An Lithium Battery Energy Facility does NOT BELONG:

So Close to Caledonia

So Close to the Grand River

On UNDERMINED agricultural LAND

We urge Haldimand County to reconsider this project site AND explore safer, more environmentally friendly alternatives for energy storage.
Please sign this petition if you share these concerns and want to protect our community from potential harm.
