I'd like to thank everyone who has signed this petition over the past two weeks. If you know any friends or neighbors who might be interested in what happens to Canyon Hills, please forward this petition to them so that they have the information. And also, please encourage them to attend the Mira Mesa Recreation Council meeting on September 13 from 7:00am-8:30pm at Lopez Ridge Recreation Center. The more people we have there to give their input on what happens to Canyon Hills, the better. The attached photo shows Spineshurb (Adolphia californica), an endangered species that grows on Canyon Hills Open Space (It also grows at various areas within Rancho Penasquitos Preserve.) Spineshrub is in the buckthorn family, the same family as its better known cousins ceanothus and coffeeberry. Spineshrub looks like a dead green stick for most of the year. But in March and April, it comes alive with fragrant white flowers (I think the plants resemble mounding ceanothus plants when they are blooming.) Look for a large population of Spineshrub on the south facing slope of Canyon Hills. Look to the south (towards Mira Mesa) below the main service road near the top of the hill. This is a beautiful site/sight in the springtime!
