We have come to the conclusion that Denbigh High School is homophobic. Many students have not personally experienced this homophobia, but to the few too many… this is hard to go through. LGBTQ+ students are being bullied, harassed, and judged for how they identify. This needs to stop.

Transgender students are not comfortable using the “boy” and “girl” bathrooms because they feel uncomfortable and they do not want to make fellow students uncomfortable. A simple solution to this option is to provide a gender-neutral bathroom (such as one in the office and nurse's office). Sadly, students are not allowed to use such bathrooms.

We are petitioning Denbigh High School to stop the homophobia which is occurring within the school's walls. The school claims to be a “bully-free zone” however, they are not living up to that statement. We are also petitioning Denbigh High School to create a gender-neutral bathroom for transgender students who do not feel comfortable in strictly “boy” and “girl” bathrooms.

Due to a lack of awareness, these incidents go unnoticed. Regardless of how someone identifies themselves–we’re all human. Ignorance and hate are not excuses to treat others as if they were lesser. The school is hurting them for not doing anything. We must make a change, we must act now.
