As most of you may know, Holly Duffany was let go from her position as the Animal Control Officer for the Town of North Kingstown. Duffany served the town for over 4 years. During that time, she adopted out hundreds of homeless animals, and made the community a better place for pets and pet owners. Before that, the shelter wasn't a positive place, and you wouldn't even want to set foot in there. Since Duffany took over, the shelter became a welcoming, and positive place. Duffany built relationships with pet owners and helped to educate the public on things such as spaying and neutering. Duffany won numerous awards including Animal Care Worker of the Year Award and RI's Best Animal Shelter in South County. As you've probably heard, Duffany was fired over inadequate paperwork. It's not that it wasn't being done, it was just not up to their standards. This was paperwork which should have been overseen by a supervisor and brought to her attention on a day to day basis if there was an issue. They have since brought up reports from over a year ago and have fired her for them. Duffany received one written warning in regards to her paperwork...One. She has never been suspended for anything. She received no help, guidance, or counseling in this matter. Nor was there any formal training, orientation, or policies/procedures for the Animal Control position. Duffany's job was not one dimensional, and paperwork was just one part of it. If she was fantastic at all other aspects of the job, why not help build her up to be the best ACO she could be. Instead of working with her, they worked against her. She could have been helped, and she could have been counseled and re-trained. She was truly an asset to the community and they will suffer a great loss if she is not reinstated. Please consider signing this petition in hopes to have the town reconsider Duffany's position. She wasn't given a fair chance nor was there any progressive discipline. We as a community need to stand up and support her. Thank you.
