Dear GEDI Supporters,
I'm excited to share that your voices are having an impact and that a promising solution has been proposed to #saveGEDI! Read more in this report from NBC4 Washington, which highlights the essential efforts of the congressional delegation from GEDI's home base at University of Maryland. I'm also glad to report that NJ Rep. Mikie Sherrill's office has engaged with NASA and the GEDI Team to help identify viable solutions, attention that was a direct result of your signatures and support!
But - GEDI is not yet out of the woods (so to speak). We need to maintain pressure on our politicians to ensure that the plan to #saveGEDI is finalized in December and to continually send the message that climate solutions must be a priority.
Here are two easy actions you can take today to amplify your impact:
- Call your own U.S. Congress delegation. Yes, you should call, not email. I did it, you can too. You'll talk to a real person and tell them you care about climate solutions and that science like NASA's GEDI mission must be prioritized. The person you reach may not know what GEDI is. That's ok, they'll call someone at NASA to find out, and even that small step will convey to NASA that people care about this science and that's a win. Contacts: Senators, Representatives
- Follow the GEDI Program on Twitter @GEDI_Knights to learn more about the impact that GEDI is having and to stay updated on #saveGEDI developments
Thank you again for your signatures and support! My company uses forest data but on this matter I'm simply a concerned citizen who saw an opportunity to stand up for the science that drives climate solutions, and it's inspiring to see so many of us stand together!
Best Regards,
Thomas Moran, PhD
