DOT: Let Mayor Dougherty Close South St.- Morristown Restaurants Need the Business

The Issue

Governor Murphy announced recently that restaurants throughout the state may begin serving meals outdoors beginning June 15th. Many area residents are hoping that includes shutting down part of South St. to allow for dining al fresco.

Morristown Mayor Tim Dougherty submitted a request to the Department of Transportation but the request was denied.

"I can not shut down parts of South Street", he said. "It's a state road. I will continue to press the Governor's Office and DOT to allow us on Saturday nights from 4pm to 10pm to shut down a segment of South Street. We do it for parades. We do it for fall festivals. We hope they will reconsider this request".

Senator Anthony Bucco put in a request to the DOT as well but we hope this petition may also help.
