Dry needling is a tool used by physical therapist in combination with manual therapy to treat many cases of muscular pain. This treatment option has helped patients to avoid surgery and other invasive procedures such as steroid injections, epidurals, etc. Thousands of patients across NJ have been benefiting from this therapy tool for several years without one reported incident of injury or adverse affect report to the New Jersey Board of Physical Therapy Examiners. Recently the NJBPTE issued a decision based on the NJ Attorney General's OPINION that prevents physical therapist to use dry needling as a treatment tool. Their OPINION states that dry needling is NOT within the scope of practice for the physical therapist in NJ even though the NJ Board of Physical Therapy Examiners has ruled it to be a skill included in manual therapy. Most insurances cover dry needling if performed by a certified physical therapist. Now these patients will be referred to acupuncturist and pay for the service out-of-pocket. Patients are encouraged to contact their legislator to voice an objection to a non-drug source of pain control performed by many other physical therapists legally in several states. We ask you to please sign this petition to help overturn the decision made by the NJBPTE and by the Attoney General, Christopher S. Porrino. Thank you in advance.
