Dear 25,000 Signers,
Thank you so much for your wonderful support so far. I only drive for short distances, either to the nearby market or for my doctor appointments. How much pollution will be curbed by scrapping the car of a 69-year-old whose mobility is anyways restricted due to old age plus Covid concerns of late? I’ve summed up my argument in a video, which is also attached to this update. I urge you all to watch and share this video further in your respective multiple networks.

For the last several days, the Bhalswa landfill in Delhi has been on fire, polluting the nearby residential areas. The National Green Tribunal has ordered that the three landfills in Delhi need to be remediated by 2023-24. However, even as the biomining of legacy waste happens at these landfills, fresh waste continues to be dumped, which essentially means that the landfills aren’t being flattened.
In this harsh summer season, there have already been four instances of fires at Delhi’s landfills. Little is visible as being done to curb the same. And yet, the authorities seem to have no other solution except deregistering old vehicles attaining lifespans of 10/15 years, with the legitimate needs of senior citizens continuing to remain unaddressed.
To me, this seems like a severe loophole in the government's policy making process. There needs to be an empathetic approach to guide our policymaking.
I’m hopeful that kind folks such as you will help spread my message far and wide, and that ultimately the authorities will listen. Until then, I request you to watch and share this video on social media and with your family and friends over WhatsApp.
