Dear Signers,
Think about it. Before the authorities in Delhi-NCR run after personal vehicles that have crossed their shelf life, shouldn’t the government here look at the ‘fitness’ of its own public buses?

The entire bus fleet operated by the Delhi Transport Corporation, comprising 3,760 buses, was declared overage last year. Procurement of new electric buses has been really slow.
Would Delhi’s air pollution problem be solved by forcefully confiscating and scrapping the overage vehicles of senior citizens? Can any government department tell me how many such vehicles are there in the city and what positive impact their scrapping will have on the environment? We already use our vehicles for the bare minimum to keep our expenses in check.
The rules in Delhi are because of an order by the National Green Tribunal, which aims to curb pollution in the national capital. In the rest of the country, personal or commercial vehicles that have crossed the age of 20 and 15 years respectively will have to be scrapped only if they fail an automated fitness test. It does not classify vehicles based on their fuel type.
I believe this option should be available to Delhi-NCR residents as well. And senior citizens should be exempted from this clause as well. It makes no sense for us to buy a new vehicle for our negligible requirements.
