Niskayuna CSD - Support a School Resource Officer (SRO) Program

Niskayuna CSD - Support a School Resource Officer (SRO) Program
The Issue
School Resource Officer (SRO) programs have become an essential part of school communities. The students, faculty and staff at Niskayuna Central Schools are missing out on this valuable resource. SROs are more than just an added layer of security; they play an integral role acting as educators, mentors, and emergency managers. Neighboring districts have successfully implemented and maintained SRO programs for years. (This includes but is not limited to: Bethlehem, Guilderland, Mohonasen, North/South Colonie, BH-BL, Ballston Spa, Saratoga, Schenectady, Shenendehowa, Scotia and many others.) Listed below are some of the many benefits of an SRO program that our school community is in need of.
Did you know?
- SROs promote safety in and around the school and act as a liaison between school and outside agencies.
- SROs provide education on topics related to law enforcement such as anti-bullying, conflict resolution, and drug prevention.
- SROs serve as visible mentors; fostering trust by building relationships with students, reinforcing positive behaviors, and connecting youth with needed services.
- SROs develop and implement comprehensive safety plans in coordination with school administrators and local first responders.
The time is NOW to implement a formal SRO program in Niskayuna. Our students, faculty, and staff deserve the same level of safety, education, and support that other school districts provide through their SRO programming. Please sign (and share) this petition to show your support for a program that is long overdue in the Niskayuna Central School District.
