Das Anliegen

Dear Sir or Madam,

My name is Elisabeth and I’m a law student from Germany.
One year ago I visited a "Snake-Zoo" in Pattaya, Thailand.

To my surprise the first thing I saw in this zoo were a bear and a monkey in small, cramped cages.
Both cages were too dirty, too small for these animals and plants were missing as well, so they had no chance to hide and it’s an easy way for visitors to throw stuff and rubbish into the cages.

Other animals like turtles, birds, rabbits and a squirrel were held there as well – take a guess, right, all their cages were too small and also with no enrichment.
The basin of the turtles was filled with stagnant water, the birds had no possibility to fly, the snakes could almost not move, the monkey had nothing to climb or play with and he was lonely – poison for animals that are normally around a lot of companions, and the bear had nothing to scratch his back or to sharpen his claws.
They are all held in an isolation which is frustrating and harming every creature.

I am writing you especially because of the monkey and the bear, they looked really sad and bored.
I was disgusted by this sight.
These people working in the "Snake-Farm, International Snake Show Pattaya" do not care enough about the animals.
They shall feel embarrassed, as well as anyone else who is supporting them.
If this is not how you want to be treated, you should not treat anyone else like that.

And it does not matter if human or animal.                                                 Humans have to understand that they do not own wild animals; they are sentient beings who have a right to be free from captivity, imprisonment, pain and fear.

I hope you can free the animals or help and advance their living circumstances.

They belong in the wild and not in small dirty cages.

It is undeniable that further education about the abuse of animals is still needed in a lot of places.
Ignorance is inexcusable and as cruel as those people who profit from animals and their suffering.
Learn a lesson from the countries which can offer better conditions, treatment and recognition to animals and give them their freedom back. Be part of the change, be part of a better future.

I am writing to urge you to do what is best for these animals and transfer them to an accredited sanctuary, where they will have the opportunity to roam, forage and explore a large naturalistic habitat.

When offered sanctuary, they would never be isolated like they are now.

At least, they would be able to smell, see and hear other animals and have the opportunity to interact with them and follow their native and inherent instinct. This zoo simply cannot provide them with the species-appropriate life, room, care and freedom that they deserve.
I plead for solidarity and sensitivity from you and to exercise your authority so these animals are moved to a sanctuary where a natural habitat and a better life are awaiting them.
This so called zoo shall be closed.

I request that you intervene on this issue and transfer and retire all these animals to a sanctuary so they can live in suitable and natural conditions.

If you truly care about their well-being, you will act in their best interests and let them go to a sanctuary.

Thank you for your consideration and help.
