StarTropics Representation in Modern Nintendo Games and Software

StarTropics, a first-party release for the Nintendo Entertainment System, turns 30 in 2020. This game was produced by Nintendo visionary Genyo Takeda (the mind behind such classics as the Punch-Out!! series) and was unique in that it was one of the few first-party games in Nintendo’s history that was only ever localized for North America and Europe. The game even received a sequel, titled Zoda’s Revenge: StarTropics II, which was also the last game developed by Nintendo exclusively for the NES. The series has gone unrecognized since, not even garnering recognition in games such as the Super Smash Brothers series, which is renowned for its accuracy to obscure franchises. This petition is for StarTropics to get recognized in some meaningful way by Nintendo, whether it be via a playable character or stage in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, a remake of the first game for current generation consoles, or an entirely new installment in the series altogether. Right now, the best way to bring the franchise back presents itself in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, whether it be having longtime series protagonist Mike Jones make his debut as a playable fighter, or have a StarTropics stage or Spirit character. The fan demand for this series to return is there, and generations of Nintendo fans wish to experience the game and its colorful world for the first time in years. For some, it will be their first time experiencing it ever. So let’s bring back one of the few North American and European exclusives, and, most of all, let’s make a new generation of fans happy.
