On May 20th, 2014, Nintendo had officially cut the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection for both the Wii and DS due to their server host, GameSpy, being bought by a company named Glu Mobile. Whether the action was optional or forced, this decision had upset and angered the fans of the Wii and DS. To this day, millions of people still play on both consoles even though the Wi-Fi Connection was cut, especially for one of the most popular games, Mario Kart Wii. Millions of people owned Mario Kart Wii and enjoyed playing online against other players. Even up to the day of the shutdown, a significant amount of people continued to race and battle online. Once the servers were shutdown, Wii and DS fans began to create fan-made servers to allow people to play online again. This shows that millions of people still have a lot of passion and enjoyment towards the Wii and DS. The sequel games, Mario Kart 8 for the Wii U and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe for the Nintendo Switch, have online; however, they lack the spark and excitement Mario Kart Wii had on Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection. Nintendo, as fans of the Wii and Nintendo DS, we beg of you, please bring back the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection.
