The Issue

Grandview Mall in Guangzhou, China opened up an aquarium inside the mall in January 2016.  The mall and aquarium came under fire immediately by numerous local and international animal rights organizations which described the habitat as overcrowded, artificial and sparse.

Animal Asia, PETA and numerous other animal rights organizations have launched similar petitions calling for the closure of the aquarium which has attracted many signatures.

Animal rights organizations, media (The Guardian, Telegraph, Washington Post, AOL and more) and members of the public were and are horrified to see images of a polar bear being called "the worlds saddest polar bear". There are many other animals (such as five walrus calves, six young beluga whales, and two Arctic wolves) being kept in confined barren enclosures and are being used as trophies for "selfies" and enjoyment and amusement for the mall visitors.

Grandview Mall has many local and international tenants which can place pressure on the mall owners and local authorities to close down the enclosures and work with animal rights groups to release and rehabilitate the animals.

We call on all the brands and tenants at Grandview Mall in Guangzhou, China, to place pressure on the mall owners to work with animal rights organizations to release all animals being held at the mall and its attractions. It is with their help that we can end their suffering and sadness and give them a voice that they do not have.

The following brands have shops in Grandview Mall in Guangzhou, China; Nike, Estee Lauder, Christian Dior, Bobbi Brown, Lancome, Miss Sixty, Guess, Ella Essay, Vero Moda, Swarovski, Stradivarius, Sonos, Skechers, Pull and Bear, New Balance, Levis, GAP, H&M, Jack&Jones, Emporio Armani, Casio, Crocs, Max Factor, Emporio Armani and many others.
